Blackberry picking in the forest

Last Sunday, I went to the nearby forest with some friends to gather tasty blackberries. In Germany, August is the prime time to harvest these delicious treasures. The bushes are full of them now. It is so enjoyable to spend a day in the forest and to come home with a bucket full of berries. The place where I usually go into the woods starts with stairs of over 500 steps. So workout was included 😉

Back home, I made some marmalade and a cake with blackberries.
For the marmalade, I took less sugar as usual and added some lemon juice to get it a bit more sour. I took 200g of sugar for 800g of blackberries. It took longer to cook than last year, but the marmalade is delicious. It is like summer in a jar 😀

With the remaining blackberries, I created a somewhat exotic cake. I had some Pandan left over, so I made a Pandan-Blackberry-Cake. Pandan is an Asian plant known for its vibrant green colour and vanilla-like aroma. The intensity of the pandan’s green hue set against the blackberries’ rich, deep colour, an enjoyable contrast.

I loved this summer day: spending time with friends, enjoying a walk through the woods, foraging blackberries and processing them into delicious goods 🙂

Finally, here are some manga-style sketches about the moments of foraging and crafting delicious blackberry creations
